Jack Cope wins the 2021 St Andrews Trophy

Jack Cope produced some fireworks to claim the St Andrews Trophy over the weekend. Jack finished eight under par 280 along with Robin Williams and George Burns but won at the fourth extra hole (the 18th) after driving the green pin high to twenty feet . After an opening 73 on the Jubillee course which many regard as the most difficult of the six courses at the home of golf. Jack played the afternoon room in 70 on the Old to be one under at the cut and six adrift of Charlie Thornton. Another morning 70 and an afternoon 67 put Jack in the three man play off.

Speaking to the tournament organisers Jack said “I was committed to every shot I hit out there over those four holes. I probably played the best I played all week tee to green. I guess that was a nice time to really peak. I love the home of golf. I particularly like the Old Course, mainly because I normally score alright round there which helps. Just walking over that bridge, taking photos, thinking about all the players who have won here and played here. This is very special to me.”

Zac wins his second Club Championship

Zac Annear already a club champion at three different clubs added his second title with superb golf over the weekend. Rounds of 72 and 68 were enough to pip overnight leader James Buckley 71-77 into second place by eight strokes. Going out in 32 on the front nine Zac took charge making four birdies and two eagles which included holing out from 100 yards at the 15th and complimented by a fly over of the Red Arrows. Zac dedicated his luck to his good friend Paul Morris who passed away recently. Kobe Wesson was third 76-73. The Nett competition saw 13 year old Charlie Pearce-Ward take the Lynwood Trophy with 64-72 nett, whilst John Ruff took the McTiffin Vase with Saturday’s 64 nett. Nigel Gravelle was in the mix until his old legs tired but still a good pair of 75s to be 4th, he had got back to one over after 27. Graham Hinkley took 5th spot with 73-78. The first four scores will compete in the Scratch Cup. In the Semi Finals: Zac Annear will play Nigel Gravelle whilst Kobe Wesson will take on James Buckley.
